Pre-Vet

A career as a veterinarian is a great choice for someone who loves helping animals. Vets provide both preventative and emergency care—ensuring that our feathered, furred and scaled friends are healthy, happy and well-cared for—and to do that they need a broad education and variety of skills.

A career as a veterinarian is a great choice for someone who has a passion for caring for animals. Vets provide both preventative and emergency care—ensuring that our feathered, furred and scaled friends are healthy, happy and well-cared for—and to do that they need a broad education and variety of skills.  Becoming a veterinarian requires a strong academic background in math, research and the sciences, as well as good communications and interpersonal skills.

Designed for flexibility, Assumption’s program offers opportunities to major in Biology, Chemistry, or Health Sciences and complete the Concentration in Pre-Clinical Health Professions.  This interdisciplinary concentration provides the student with the strong background in mathematics, science, and the social sciences necessary for successful graduate study in veterinary medicine.  Pre-vet students work closely with Professor Steven Theroux, Assumption’s Health Professions Coordinator, to develop their course schedule in accordance with their professional ambitions and personal academic interests.

Assumption’s pre-vet program, coupled with the University’s liberal arts education will provide you with what you need to pursue a career in the field, and assist the animals that need your help. Students in the pre-vet program are encouraged to volunteer in the local community to learn more about the veterinary industry.
