Web Accessibility Statement

At Assumption University, we are committed to providing a website that is accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our digital presence reflects the values stated in our mission: awakening a sense of wonder, discovery, and purpose in our students, forming graduates known for their intellectual seriousness, thoughtful citizenship, and devotion to the common good.

Accessibility Features

Web Standards Compliance: We aim to adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA standards to  provide content that is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.
Alternative Text for Images: We work to ensure meaningful images on our website are accompanied by descriptive alternative text that conveys the content of the images effectively.
Captions and Transcripts: Videos on our website are accompanied by closed captions and transcripts to ensure that users with hearing impairments can access the information.
Keyboard Accessibility: We have designed our website to be fully navigable using a keyboard alone.
Color Contrast: We ensure that the color contrast between text and background meets the required accessibility standards, allowing content to be legible for all users.
Consistent Navigation: Our website features a clear and consistent navigation structure to help users locate information efficiently.
Assistive Technology Compatibility: We strive to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies commonly used by individuals with disabilities.

Ongoing Efforts

Ensuring accessibility is an ongoing process, and we are committed to regularly reviewing and improving our website to meet the evolving accessibility standards and best practices.

We are aware that the current platform through Drupal presents several navigation issues for some devices and users. These issues have been reported to Drupal, and any opportunities for remediation will be swifty taken. That being said, to ensure a more accessible digital experience in the future, we are currently working to rebuild this website in a more accessible environment, with the intent to launch a redesigned site on the new platform within the current academic year.

In the meantime, if you encounter accessibility barriers or have suggestions on how we can improve, please contact webcompliance@assumption.edu.
