The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is a program offered at more than 1,700 universities across the United States that prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. Military.
There are many benefits to pursuing this life-changing opportunity at Assumption. In addition to building a strong academic foundation, ROTC students will gain tremendous leadership, interpersonal and technical skills. Generous scholarship and stipend opportunities are offered, some of which cover full tuition and provide a living allowance.
Students who complete the ROTC program and/or are awarded a scholarship commit to serve in the military after graduation and are guaranteed an Officer Commission, providing them with a manager-level position straight out of college. Whether students decide to continue in the military after their commitment is fulfilled, or pursue a civilian job, their military experience will set them apart from other candidates.

Army ROTC INFORMATION
Army ROTC Scholarships are available to university-bound high school students as well as current university students. Two-, three-, and four-year scholarships are available, depending on the length of time remaining to finish your degree.
Scholarships cover tuition and fees or room and board and also include a book stipend as well as a monthly living allowance.
Four Year Program – Students attend Army ROTC for four years as a set of elective courses offered in addition to regular university classes.
Two Year Program – Students who have two years left of university (either completing a bachelor’s degree or entering a post-graduate program) can enter this accelerated program in which they attend a four-week Army ROTC Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before beginning their two years of elective courses in addition to regular university classes.
Assumption University’s ROTC cadets are members of the Bay State Battalion, headquartered at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), just minutes from Assumption’s campus. Cadets participate in three weekly PT sessions, and two Military Science classes per week at WPI.
Students who are awarded an ROTC scholarship or enter the Army ROTC Advanced Course (takes place during your last two years in university) agree to complete an eight-year period of service with the Army. Army Officers can choose to pursue full-time careers on Active Duty or part-time service in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard.
Virtually all professional career fields available in civilian life are available to Army Officers. Choose from a wide range of professional development opportunities including everything from Human Resource Management to Nursing, and Engineering to Law Enforcement. Air Force ROTC
Achieve personal and professional excellence
The mission of Air Force ROTC is to develop leaders of character for tomorrow’s Air Force. In Air Force ROTC you will not only learn the principles of leadership in the classroom, but you will put them into practice outside of the classroom through hands-on management experience and valuable leadership-building exercises.
In addition to regular university coursework, Air Force ROTC cadets participate in a Leadership Laboratory, a summer Field Training program, base visits for firsthand observation of the operating Air Force, and have the opportunity to attend social events throughout the year, including a Dining-In, Military Ball, a Field Day, and intramural sport activities.
Air Force ROTC Information
Air Force ROTC provides several different scholarship opportunities, including scholarships that cover full tuition and fees as well as book and living expense stipends.
Four Year Program – Students complete two years of the General Military Course (GMC). Those who successfully complete the GMC compete nationwide for entry into the Professional Officers Course (POC).
Three Year Program – Students take an accelerated GMC in one year instead of two. This gives students the flexibility to being the Air Force ROTC program in their sophomore year (or junior year with one year of graduate study).
Assumption University’s Air Force ROTC cadets are members of the Air Force ROTC Detachment 340, which has its headquarters at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), just minutes from Assumption’s campus.
Freshmen and Sophomores participate in one class (one hour a week), a Leadership Lab (two hours a week) and PT (two hours a week) at WPI.
Juniors and Seniors follow the same schedule, with two additional class hours per week.
Most officers have a four-year commitment. For pilots it is 10 years after pilot training, and six years for combat systems officers after training. Air Battle Managers have a six-year commitment. Additional information can be found here.
Career training opportunities are vast. From pilot to navigator, dentist to nurse, air traffic control to communications, there are over 160 officer career specialties available to you in the Airforce ROTC.
