Service and Immersion Trips

Since 1986, members of the Assumption community have traveled during University breaks to sites in the U.S. and abroad to encounter people in need through service, mutual learning, and spiritual reflection. Known as SEND trips, service and immersion trips are week-long experiences for students and faculty shape the souls of the participants and develop their devotion to the common good by walking alongside local communities, gaining insight into their joys and struggles, and learning about the political, economic, and other factors that impact their lives.

2025 to 2026 Service Trips

SEND trips in the 2025-2026 academic year will include an international trip to the Dominican Republic during Spring Break (first week of March 2026) and a domestic trip to El Paso, Texas, and Chaparral, New Mexico (third week of May 2026). For the trip to the Dominican Republic, we will partner with the organization Rostro de Cristo, which focuses on being with members of the local community rather than doing for them, building relationships, and developing a greater understanding of the reality of communities on the margins, through visits and dialogue. The trip to El Paso and Chaparral, which is in partnership with the Encuentro Project, introduces participants to the ministry of hospitality that the Assumptionists and the Religious of the Assumption are providing to immigrants at the U.S./Mexico border. Student and faculty participants in the trips bond during preparatory meetings that use materials from Catholic Relief Services, and opportunities for reflection and faith-sharing during the trip invite students to consider how the experiences of the trip call them to greater spiritual maturity and impact how they live out the implications of their faith. ServeUP is an annual trip offered during Spring Break by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.  The service usually involves rebuilding efforts for victims of hurricanes in Louisiana or Texas.  Assumption students join students from other Worcester universities on the trip.
