Assumption Named a Top College for School Counseling Majors

Jan 09, 2019

Assumption was named one of the “Top 5 Best Schools for School Counseling Majors” in a ranking recently released by Zippia, an online resource that provides assistance to those exploring their career options.

To determine which school counseling programs offer the best career opportunities, Zippia analyzed data from the National Center for Education Statistics and the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard.  The three factors evaluated include: school counseling emphasis (percentage of graduates who are school counseling majors); career results (number of graduates working and their earnings over a number of years); and overall school performance (admissions and graduation rate, cost of attendance and median debt). Assumption ranked fourth among all Massachusetts schools.

Assumption’s Master of Arts in School Counseling program prepares students to become school (guidance) counselors. The School Counseling Program trains future counselors to work with students across academic, career, and social-emotional domains. Students pursuing a master’s in School Counseling are prepared to engage in prevention and intervention planning as well as program evaluation to meet individual student and school-level needs expected as a school counselor. Graduates of the school counseling program at Assumption are positioned to assume a professional role in a school setting where they will have an immediate impact the lives of children and adolescents.

According to Zippia, it was founded in May 2015 to provide students helpful resources to find the career that is right for them. The online platform gathered experts in the fields of technology, marketing, and engineering who were passionate about improving career outcomes for everyone and built “the most intelligent and personalized resource for your career questions.”
