Students Get Involved at Assumption University’s 2022 Clubs and Activities Fair

Get involved!
It’s one of those pieces of advice that incoming first-year students hear when they first step foot on Assumption University’s campus. Through Assumption University’s Office of Student Activities, every student has the opportunity to engage in lively social, recreational, academic, and cultural extracurricular clubs and activities.
On September 1st, the Office of Student Activities hosted the annual Assumption University Clubs and Activities Fair outside on the quad space near Taylor Dining Hall. Nearly 90 Assumption University-affiliated clubs, offices, and programs attended the event with info booths and activities to inspire students to get involved.
“I think every student should join a club at Assumption University because it is a great way to find like-minded people and a great way to give back to the Assumption community,” Maureen Lynch ’24, Editor-in-chief of Le Provocateur student newspaper said. “I have had the opportunity to become a student leader through Le Provocateur in a way that helps students both stay up to date with what is happening around campus and provide them with a place to practice creative writing skills they will use later in life.”
Assumption University’s diverse selection of clubs and student organizations mean that no matter what students are passionate about, they have an opportunity to join or create an organization that inspires community. Students can explore Rome with the SOPHIA Program, spread messages of inclusion with AU Best Buddies, raise awareness for environmental sustainability with Eco-Action Committee, invest real money with the Greyhounds Investment Fund, and much more!
“I believe it is important for students to get involved in areas of their interests, from academic to spiritual to co-curricular,” said Sara Swillo Muckian, Assistant Dean for Campus Life. “The best part about Assumption University clubs and organizations is that there is something for everyone and we offer such a wide variety of ways to get involved that my hope is everyone found something they are interested in joining. But if they do not, my door is always opened to start a new club on campus. I would love to see new clubs started this year by any member of our community!”
In addition to 49 clubs recognized by Assumption University’s Student Government Association, there are many groups within student organizations, academic programs, and residential life who offer opportunities for students to get involved. For example, Assumption University Campus Recreation offers students 14 club sports and year-round intramural seasons for students of all skill levels.
“In joining a club sport at Assumption University, you have an opportunity to build a community and grow relationships with your classmates outside of the classroom,” Ryan Prendergast ’23, Club Ultimate Frisbee co-captain said.
“Joining a club sport is a great opportunity to meet new friends and try new sports in a low-stress, fun environment,” Roberto Martinez ’24, Club Ultimate Frisbee captain added.
Assumption University students can also get involved in a diverse selection of student employment opportunities, on-campus internships, research experiences, NCAA Division I and Division II athletics, and more.
