Assumption Launches Exclusive Dow Jones Investing in Education Partnership

Worcester, MA—Assumption University today announced that it has joined the Dow Jones Investing in Education program, becoming one of only approximately 100 institutions nationwide, including Stanford University, Villanova University, and the University of Texas, to offer this level of access to students and faculty.
The partnership, made possible by a philanthropic gift from Carl and Jacqueline Cafaro, on behalf of The Cafaro Group of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, will provide full digital access to Barron’s and MarketWatch along with a suite of experiential learning opportunities not otherwise available to the public—including the opportunity to visit the Dow Jones headquarters in New York City for an immersive experience.
“Assumption has always sought to prepare students for meaningful and rewarding work as an expression of Catholic liberal education. This program is a distinctive opportunity for our students, and a real differentiator in how we prepare them to meaningfully engage as thoughtful citizens,” said President Greg Weiner. “The market analysis provided by these outlets both reflects and shapes business, policy, and social discourse around the world—so it was meaningful for the University to provide all students and faculty, not just those studying business, with these resources. We are deeply grateful to Carl and Jacqueline Cafaro, on behalf of the Cafaro Group, for that gift.”
“My team is proud to be part of this important initiative and its lasting impact on current and future students. This is in line with our mission to make an impact on organizations that matter to us,” said Carl Cafaro ’98, a member of the Assumption University Board of Trustees and Managing Director of The Cafaro Group. “Assumption has always been a special place to me and the education I received set me up for long term success.”
Cafaro believes that alumni are uniquely positioned to support initiatives that prepare the next generation for success.
“The Investing in Education program expands access to financial education and empowers students with lifelong skills that will serve them well beyond graduation. We’re helping to provide students with valuable financial literacy skills while strengthening their connection to the University.”
Through the program, Assumption faculty will receive a Weekly Review of curated Barron’s and MarketWatch articles with practical classroom applications, while students receive a daily Market Brief delivering timely news and analysis. The partnership also opens the door to live webinars and Q&A sessions with Barron’s editors and Wall Street professionals, connections to internships, and targeted teaching tools.
“Our national program introduces students to Wealth Management, global markets, and real-time news. It promotes financial proficiency by connecting textbook theory to real-world analysis while exposing students to an array of business careers,” said Joe Piombino, Director of Financial Education at Barron’s. “With over 100 colleges, universities, and high schools in the program, students are gaining a stronger understanding of financial matters and business acumen by participating in our Investing in Education program.”
