Vocal Scholarship

Assumption University offers a number of vocal music scholarships, based on an audition, of up to $10,000 to incoming first-year students who demonstrate vocal excellence and who commit to participation in the Assumption University Chorale and its a cappella chamber ensemble, VOCE. The scholarship is renewable each year, provided the student continues to participate in Chorale and VOCE and maintains good attendance in those ensembles.

The deadline to apply for this scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year is April 1, 2024. As soon as possible, students should download and review the application requirements. It’s important to know that the first round of vocal auditions will be through video submissions.

Upon submitting a vocal scholarship application, students should also apply for admission to Assumption University

The ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY CHORALE is an academic concert choir comprised of artists who are studying for professions in all walks of life and who share an interest in the joy of choral singing and the community that comes with it. The Chorale performs music from across generations and styles, using music as a tool to explore and communicate more effectively. In University Chorale, each member fully contributes to learning and creative expression by engaging in a process-oriented experience where the performances are a byproduct of the learning that takes place in the rehearsal room.

Their active performance schedule has included concerts in the United States, as well as performances on radio and television. The Chorale’s international concert tours have taken them to Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Ireland, and Greece. They have sung in some of the great cathedrals of Europe, including Notre Dame in Paris, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and have twice had the distinction of singing for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.

VOCE, which means ‘voices’ in Latin, is an ensemble from within the Chorale, and singers are chosen at the beginning of the year through a discussion with the director and a commitment to a workload outside of the normal rehearsal time. They rehearse immediately following Chorale and usually focus on a cappella music, both classical and popular. VOCE performs at Chorale concerts and also sings for special events on campus and in the wider community functioning as a community outreach ensemble. Students who are awarded a Vocal Music Scholarship are expected to commit to VOCE if they are invited to be part.
