Celebrating the Christmas Season at Assumption

Every year, Assumption hosts a number of holiday events on campus in the celebration of Advent and Christmas.  These events, open to members of the Assumption and Worcester communities, provide engaging ways in which to prepare for the celebration of Christmas and to give back during the “season of giving,” a reminder of the true meaning of the season.  

Holiday Giving Tree
Monday, Nov. 4 – Monday, Dec. 2  
Hagan Campus Center 

Students and faculty choose a mitten from the “Giving Tree” and purchase a gift for a child in need. All gifts are donated to the children of the Guild of St. Agnes. 
 

Assumption Jazz Band Christmas Concert (Canceled)

Monday, Dec. 2
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM 
Curtis Performance Hall 

The Assumption College Jazz Band, under the direction of Paul Buono, will perform its annual Christmas Concert, featuring jazz, funk, and rock holiday favorites. The event is free and open to the public. 
 

Christmas in Charlie’s
Wednesday, Dec. 4
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Charlie’s, Hagan Campus Center

Every year, Assumption students, staff and faculty are encouraged to stop by the Hagan Campus Center for the annual Christmas in Charlie’s to celebrate the last day of classes.  Charlie’s is transformed into a winter wonderland and packed an array of crafts, food, and giveaways. Popular staples include the SGA’s Christmas cookie decorating and eggnog table, as well as stations where students can decorate ornaments, stockings, and much more.

21st Annual Tickets-For-Tots Program
Wednesday, Dec. 4
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Charlie’s, Hagan Campus Center

The Department of Public Safety will hold its 21st Annual Tickets-for-Tots program, in which on-campus parking citations are forgiven in exchange for a toy donated to the U.S. Marine Corps. Toys-for-Tots program or a cash donation to the Telegram & Gazette Santa Fund. There will also be photo opportunities with Santa’s Helpers for $1 per picture. Proceeds from the photos will also benefit the Santa Fund.

Christmas Buffet with President and Mrs. Cesareo
Thursday, Dec. 5 
4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Testa Atrium 

Students are invited to join President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., and his wife, Filomena, for their Annual Student Christmas Buffet Dinner featuring student-favorite appetizers. This event will be held in the Testa Atrium. 
 

Festival of Lessons and Carols
Thursday, Dec. 5

Chapel of the Holy Spirit 

One of the College’s most cherished holiday traditions is the annual Festival of Lessons and Carol’s performance, a service of readings and song that originated in 19th century England and incorporated at Assumption to help celebrate the Advent season.  This year’s Festival of Lessons and Carols draws inspiration from the recent Vatican Synod on the Amazon and its focus on the care of the earth.  Music will be led by the Assumption College Music Ministry and Readings proclaimed by various members of the Assumption community.  All members of the community are welcome to attend. A reception with desserts and coffee will follow in the Lauring Community Room of the Tinsley Campus Ministry Center. 

Assumption Band Christmas Concert 
Friday, Dec. 6 
8:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Curtis Performance Hall 

The Assumption Band will perform their annual Christmas Concert in the Curtis Performance Hall at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. The first half of the concert will feature pieces from composers such as, Kiefer, Giovannini, Galante, Erickson and Leonard Bernstein, with the second half dedicated to sounds of the holiday season. 

Midnight Breakfast

Taylor Dining Hall

Students are encouraged to take a study break and attend the highly anticipated annual Midnight Breakfast. Members of the Assumption staff and administration will serve the food at this free event. 

Breakfast with Santa

Sunday, Dec. 8
Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Tsotsis Family Academic Center Ballroom 

Breakfast with Santa will begin with a Mass at 10a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, followed by breakfast with Santa in the ballroom of the Tsotsis Family Academic Center.
