Assumption officially welcomed six new members into its Hall of Fame at the 2018 Assumption Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held on Friday, October 26 in the Tsotsis Family Academic Center. This year’s Hall of Fame Class includes: Larry Bornheimer ’89 (basketball), Karen Doucette ’85 (basketball/softball), Paul Duquette ’81 (men’s lacrosse), Bill Hodge ’91 (men’s soccer), Stephanie (Fleming) Montessi ’02 (field hockey) and Lauren (Raswyck) Palmer ’08 (volleyball).

Assumption President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., was on hand to deliver opening remarks, followed by Director of Athletics Jamie Marcoux. The first five honorees were each inducted by a current student-athlete while the sixth, Paul Duquette, was inducted by former teammate Kevin Stone ’83.

Larry Bornheimer ’89 | Men’s Basketball
Bornheimer was a four-year standout for the Hounds, finishing his career with 1,457 points, which still ranks 16th in program history. Despite the three-pointer only being in existence for his final three seasons, the all-conference guard ranks seventh all-time in three-point field goals with 169 and sixth in career three-point percentage at .406. Bornheimer’s 72 three-point field goals during the 1987-88 season are the ninth highest total in program history, and he shot .434 from beyond the arc that season. He also finished his career with 418 assists, 226 rebounds and 175 steals.

Karen Doucette ’85 | Women’s Basketball/Softball
Doucette was a two-sport athlete at Assumption, playing both basketball and softball. On the court the scrappy point guard is Assumption’s all-time leader in assists with 621. She owns the top two single-season assist totals in program history, dishing off 231 in 1983-84 and 220 in 1982-83. She is second all-time with 284 steals and was selected as the captain her senior year while also winning the Cating award. Doucette played softball for three years and served as a captain for the 1984 season. She was a .370 hitter, with 60 hits and 50 RBI in her career.

Paul Duquette ’81 | Men’s Lacrosse
Duquette passed away in 2015, but was one of the pioneers of the men’s lacrosse program while playing from 1978-81. He helped build the program from an 0-10 campaign as a freshman to back-to-back winning seasons and a 13-5 mark over his final two years. A true ambassador for the mission of Assumption, Duquette was named captain as a senior for his leadership and ability to bring his team together. In addition to his impressive character, he still ranks eighth in program history with 65 goals and currently stands 11th in points with 90. He is a part of the longest win streak in program history, as the Hounds won seven straight from 4/26/80 – 4/11/81.

Bill Hodge ’91 | Men’s Soccer
Hodge was a dynamic scoring forward for the men’s soccer program for four seasons, concluding in 1991. He captained the 1989 team and is currently the school’s all-time leader in assists with 24. He also ranks four all-time with 68 points on 22 goals and 24 assists. Hodge’s 35 points from ten goals and 15 assists in 1988 still rank as the second-highest single-season total in men’s soccer history. The talented athlete also spent two seasons as an infielder on the baseball team in 1988 and 1989, helping the team to a 43-36 mark.

Stephanie (Fleming) Montessi ’02 | Field Hockey
Montessi is one of the top scorers in program history. She was a two-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection, earning first team honors in 2000, and graduated as part of the second-winningest class in program history. Individually, she is second all-time in games played while ranking fifth in program history in both points, with 82, and goals, with 33. Her team captured the 1998 ECAC Championship, while going a school-record 17-4. Her teams also finished as the NE10 Runner-up in 1998 and 1999.

Lauren (Raswyck) Palmer ’08 | Volleyball
Palmer is the best libero in program history, making her presence felt on the court over four seasons. She is the school’s all-time leader in digs with 1,930 while captaining the team her senior year to a 13-11 record and winning the Rev. Armand Desautels, A.A. Memorial Award. During the 2006 season, she totaled a school-record 649 digs and ranked second in the nation with 7.21 digs per set. The 7.21 average is also the fourth highest single-season mark in NCAA history. Additionally, she owns the top three single-match digs records with 53, 46 and 45 digs.
