Assumption and Washington University in St. Louis Partner to Offer Dual Engineering Degree
Assumption University and Washington University in St. Louis’s School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) announced an agreement between the two institutions to offer a Dual Degree Program. This new program offers to students an opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree from Assumption and one or more degrees from SEAS in the field of engineering. The degree(s) awarded from SEAS may include a single undergraduate degree (two-year option) or a combination of an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree (three-year option).
“This new academic partnership with Washington University will provide Assumption students gifted with a strong aptitude in mathematics and science the opportunity to pursue an engineering degree,” said Louise Carroll Keeley, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs at Assumption. “We are committed to the personal and professional success of each of our students and with this dual degree program, which complements their liberal arts education from Assumption, they will be positioned as well-rounded candidates in the competitive job market with degrees from two prestigious institutions of higher learning.”
According to the agreement, eligible students will spend three or four years of study at Assumption and then complete two or three years of study at Washington University. At least 90 units of acceptable transfer credit must be earned by students at Assumption before they can formally enroll at Washington. Assumption students who choose the two-year option will spend two years at Washington to complete an undergraduate degree in the SEAS and those who choose the three-year option will spend three years at SEAS to complete the requirements for both an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree.
Assumption students are eligible for admission to the Dual Degree Program if they are recommended by the institution and complete the entrance requirements specified by SEAS. Assumption students who have already completed all undergraduate degree requirements are eligible to apply for this program within 12 months of earning their undergraduate degrees from Assumption.
“Washington University has a highly-ranked, nationally-recognized engineering program, and collaboration with this institution will give our students the opportunity to pursue studies in several engineering sub-disciplines,” said Steven Theroux, professor of biology at Assumption. “It provides our students with a direct path that leads not only to an undergraduate degree from Assumption, but also an engineering degree from Washington University, licensure as a professional engineer, and a master’s degree in an engineering specialty. This partnership will enhance the world-class educational opportunities Assumption students have to study engineering at an affordable cost.”
