Frequently Asked Questions

When is the application due?

February 15

Who can apply for the Fellows Scholarship?

Students admitted to Assumption University Class of 2030 may apply for the scholarship.

Why should I want to be part of this new program?

• You would be part of the inaugural cohort for this new program and help us to shape it as it grows.
• You will have the opportunity to lead and serve in your new campus community from the very first day you begin your Assumption experience.
• We’ll invest in you during your entire Assumption experience and take immense pride in your leadership growth and development as you take on new challenges.

What high school experiences will strengthen my application?

You will need to show leadership in clubs, civic or church organizations, or athletic teams for the Leadership Fellows program. For the Service Fellows Program, you will need to show school or community service engagement.

Can I apply to both, or do I have to pick one or the other program?

You can apply to just one of the initiatives or both. If you apply to both, you’ll be asked to prioritize your interest as part of the interview process.

What do I get as a Leadership or Service Fellow?

• Your scholarship starts at $5,000 as a first-year student and increases $1,000 annually as you progress in the program. The scholarship increases as we expect that you will take on more leadership in the campus community each subsequent year.
• We will invest in your personal development. Students selected as Fellows will receive leadership and service education from the day you step on campus as an Assumption student.

What is the difference between being a Leader and Service Fellow?

Leadership Fellows will work with student organizations and student leaders in providing leadership education programs and support while Service Fellows will work with the Outreach Office and provide opportunity and engagement with service experiences (on and off-campus).

Are the Scholarships Stackable?

The scholarship is stackable with other Assumption University scholarship funding, but your total Assumption scholarship funding (all types: merit, need based, etc.) cannot exceed full time tuition in any given year. Additionally, if you are receiving need based funding as a result of filing the FAFSA, some of your funding (grants, loans, and federal work study) may need to be adjusted as a result of this additional funding.

What is the Scholarship Amount?

The scholarship is $5,000 for the year in which you first enroll at Assumption and increases annually based on your full-time enrollment as an undergraduate student.  Receipt of scholarship funds cannot exceed 4 years (8 semesters of enrollment)

What happens after I apply?

Applications will be reviewed on an on-going basis, and selected students will be invited to participate in an on-campus interview.

What if I can’t attend the interview day?

While we hope that you can attend the interview day so that you can learn more about the program and we can get to know you and what you would bring to the program, we will work with you to set up a virtual interview if you are unable to attend.

What will be expected of me?

• You will be asked to come to campus two days earlier than the start of the university’s orientation. During these two days, you and the rest of the Fellows will participate in introductory leadership education and team building with your cohort.
• Fellows will work ten hours per week in the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership (OSEAL). If you are Leadership Fellow, you will work with student organizations and campus-wide leadership development programs. If you are a Service Fellow, you will work with the Community Outreach Coordinator in engaging students in both on and off-campus service opportunities.
• After the first year in the program, Leadership and Service Fellows are expected to lead and serve across campus. Students may have the opportunity to work in a different area including Residence Life, the Cross-Cultural Center, Recreation or Campus Ministry.

Are there additional requirements as I progress in the program?

• First-years students will need and 2.0 GPA at the end of their first year and a 2.5 GPA by the end of their sophomore year.
• You will need to complete all aspects of the program (orientation, regular meetings, etc.) and have satisfactory work evaluations.
• You will need to model good character and citizenship in the campus community. Students who are placed on disciplinary probation for campus behavior will be evaluated for continuation in the program.

What if I have other questions about the program?

You can contact Kaitlyn Hastings at k.hastings@assumption.edu or Debbie Heida at de.heida@assumption.edu.
