With Gratitude

An email message sent to the Assumption community on November 26, 2025:

Dear Assumption Community,

As we settle into this moment of peace at an otherwise busy point of the academic year, I want to express my sincere gratitude for everything that you do. Thanksgiving affords us all the important time to rest and recharge before returning to campus for the semester’s conclusion. And as I reflect on my gratitude for you and our students, I have been inspired by recent remarks from Pope Leo XIV.

In an address to educators, Pope Leo highlighted Augustinian principles that he views as essential to our work, including joy and love. These forces, he says, separate teaching in its truest sense from simple knowledge sharing. Buoyed by joy and with authentic love for our students and each other, we commit ourselves to the pursuit oftruth in the company of friends.

Pope Leo writes that “educating is an act of hope and a passion that is renewed because it manifests the promise we see in the future of humanity.” Each day, you manifest that promise in our students through your work as outstanding educators, mentors, coaches, and administrators—and for that, I am truly grateful.

I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Warmly,

Greg Weiner, Ph.D.
