Prof. Betancourt-Calle is a scientist and educator with over 25 years of experience, 11 of which have been at Assumption University. She specializes in Medical Microbiology. In addition to teaching Microbiology, she has also taught Genetics, Human Heredity, Biological Principles and Concepts in Biology. She has participated in a variety of course design and program review initiatives in her department. Her research interest is in the Biotoxicity of Plastic Additives in Microorganisms. However, her primary focus is on her students. Her primary goals are to provide them with a strong scientific training as well as developing/improving their critical thinking, analysis and problem solving skills to prepare them for effective lifelong learning and career success.
