Riccardo Marcangeli

Adjunct Instructor of Italian

219 Founders Hall

Riccardo Marcangeli is an Adjunct Professor of Italian whose teaching and research bridge the fields of Italian cinema, cultural studies, and transnational identity. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Italian at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where his dissertation examines the representation of African Americans within Italian American film. Building upon a substantial background in Italian cinema and cultural studies, his graduate research moves beyond traditional historical surveys to investigate the complex cinematic landscape in which Italian American identity is constructed, focusing on how Black characters function, or are marginalized, within these narratives. His work explores key themes such as the negotiation of racial and ethnic identity in the U.S. context, the perpetuation or subversion of stereotypes, and the ways in which Italian American filmmakers have engaged with (or avoided) America’s complex racial history. He earned his M.A. in Italian Literature and Cinema from Boston College and his B.A. in Italian Literature & Cinema and Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated with a double major.
