Gary Hyman received his Bachelor of Music, Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1993. In 1996, Mr. Hyman completed the Fine Arts Director Certificate Program from Fitchburg State College and received his McClosky Voice Technician certification in 2008. He is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International and the Golden Key National Honor Societies, as well as an alumnus member of the national band service fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, and an honorary member of the Tri-M (music) Honor Society.
Recently retired from Attleboro High School after a 31-year career (21 years in Attleboro), where he instructed choral music, class guitar, and various general music classes, including world music percussion, history of rock & roll, and worked with the drama dept in producing the annual Spring Musical, etc. Prior to working in Attleboro, Mr. Hyman taught vocal, instrumental, and classroom music at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School for seven years.
Mr. Hyman instructs privately (saxophone, piano & voice) and studied voice with Mrs. Lin Wallin-Schuller. He has performed with many South Shore vocal and instrumental groups, including the Jubilate Chorale, Pilgrim Festival Chorus, the Harbour Chorale Arts Society & Chamber Singers, the Bridgewater State College Alumni Choir, Oure Pleasure Chamber Singers, South Shore Symphonic Winds, and the Massachusetts Wind Symphony. He has performed in Russia, Poland, Estonia, and China.
Before teaching in Bridgewater-Raynham, Gary was the music director at Carver High School and the assistant marching band director at Silver Lake Regional High School. While at Carver, he was the recipient of a Golden Apple Teaching Award and was recognized as a superior music educator by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association. Mr. Hyman has been nominated multiple times for inclusion in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
As an active music educator, he has served the Southeastern Massachusetts Schools Bandmasters Association (SEMSBA) as junior festival host, junior and senior band and chorus manager, Sr. Band Conductor, Sr. Choral Conductor, adjudicator, vice-president, and president. He was also active within the Southeastern District Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) as jr. festival co-host, adjudicator, and choral representative; in addition, he has served as host to the Tri-County Choral Festival.
