Assumption Recognized with the Military Friendly® School Silver Award

In recognition of its commitment to serving Veterans, active military, and their families, Assumption University has been recognized with the Military Friendly® School Silver Award for 2022-23. Assumption has been designated as a Military Friendly® School for the previous three years, but this year earned the higher distinction. 

“As a Veterans Administration-designated Yellow Ribbon School that strives to form graduates known for their intellectual seriousness, thoughtful citizenship, and devotion to the common good, these principles complement the commitment made by selfless women and men who have served with honor and bravery as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces,” said University President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D. “As a Catholic liberal arts institution that awakens in students a sense of wonder and purpose, Assumption is proud to offer specialized programs to Veterans.”

Recognizing that there are unique needs for the Veteran student population, Assumption’s faculty and staff are aware of these needs to provide Veterans a seamless transition into higher education. The Veterans Success Committee works closely with Veterans and active military service members to ensure that they experience success transitioning to, and working their way through, the University. Assumption also waives all application fees; offers Veteran-specific financial aid programs and packages; hosts an annual Veterans Day observance ceremony; offers a Veterans Lounge for Veterans to meet, study, and learn; and provides a network of support through aptly trained faculty and staff.

Assumption has also expanded its academic programs to serve Veterans and their families, most notably through the Special Ops: Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF) certificate program, which aims to train human services professionals to effectively engage and empower members of the SMVF community and assist them in their unique needs.  

Institutions earning the Military Friendly® Schools Top Awards were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,800 schools participated in the 2022-2023 survey. Silver Award winners such as Assumption provide programs that scored within 30 percent of the 10th-ranked institution within a given category.

The Military Friendly School designation is awarded after a review of public data, survey data from its institutions, and from the Veterans it supports in their pursuit of a college degree.
