Nicaea, Ancient & New: Seventeen Centuries of Trinitarian Faith

In commemoration of the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, Assumption’s Theology Department, Office of Campus Ministry, and D’Alzon Chair will be presenting a panel comprised of faculty members from various colleges discussing the historical significance and ongoing relevance of the First Council of Nicaea. Held in 325AD, Nicaea codified the Trinitarian confession shared by Christians across centuries, continents, and denominations, in the form of a common creed. Each panelist will share short remarks about the promises and challenges of the Trinitarian confession in history and in the contemporary age, before then engaging in common dialogue and Q&A with attendees.
The panelists include:
Fr. John Gavin, S.J., associate professor of religious studies, College of the Holy Cross
Sr. Ligita Ryliskyte, S.J.E., assistant professor in systematic theology, Boston College
J. Columcille Dever, Ph.D., assistant professor of theology, Providence College
Moderated by Ty Monroe, Ph.D., associate professor of theology, Assumption University
