Commemorating Veterans Day

An email message sent to the Assumption community on November 11, 2025:

Dear Assumption Community,

Today we honor the selfless service and sacrifice of America’s veterans. We who share in the liberty and peace earned and protected by those proud few owe them an unrequitable debt of gratitude.

The purpose of Veterans Day is not to adequately thank those who have served, because we can never do that to its full and appropriate measure—nor can we truly understand the sacrifices that have been made and continue to be made each day. But we can offer our presence and our service to those who have served.

On Thursday, we will do just that, as we gather in the company of friends to hear the stories of veterans from within our community and beyond. I invite everyone to join us for this ceremony during the Common Hour on Thursday in the Tsotsis Family Academic Center atrium—where we will commemorate Veterans Day alongside Worcester Mayor Joe Petty, Secretary Jon Santiago of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services, Major General (Ret.) Robert Catanalotti ’80 HD ’15, a member of our Board of Trustees, Associate Professor Gary Senecal, and many members of our community.

Every veteran is a human face for the enduring truths we hold dear, and the willingness to pursue those ideals without regard to personal safety, gain, or comfort. To all our veterans, active-duty service members, and families—thank you. Your selfless service to the common good inspires all of us at Assumption, and across the nation.

With deepest respect and appreciation,

Greg Weiner, Ph.D.
