Assumption University is pleased to offer band scholarships in all instruments (excluding bowed strings) to first-year students who demonstrate exceptional instrumental talent and are willing to participate in the Assumption University Band or the Assumption University Jazz Ensemble. The scholarship is renewable each year for instrumentalists who want to be part of an exciting, high-level ensemble experience!
For priority consideration, the deadline to apply for this scholarship for the 2027-2028 academic year is January 26, 2027. For more information about the scholarship audition procedures, please review the audition information here. Initial auditions are via a video submission, to be followed by a live, on-campus, aural skills audition on either February 15 or February 17, 2027, for selected finalists. Upon submitting a vocal scholarship application, you should also apply for admission to Assumption University.
A group of 40-50 players, The Assumption University Band contains students, alumni, faculty, and community members. They rehearse weekly in the Curtis Performance Hall, located in the state-of-the-art Tsotsis Family Academic Center. The band performs between 2 and 4 formal concerts each year and for campus events when needed.
Offering opportunities for guitarists, keyboardists, bassists, as well as wind players and percussion, The Assumption University Jazz Ensemble also rehearses weekly, plays at least two full performances each academic year, and explores the art of improvisation through traditional and contemporary jazz/fusion repertoire.
