Information Regarding Assumption Students Involved in a Vehicular Accident
Just after midnight on Sunday, February 9, four Assumption students were involved in a serious car accident on Route 9 not far from campus. The students were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Colin McQuillan ’20, Tim Kelly ’20, and John LeDoux ’20 were treated, released, and are all recuperating from their injuries. Staff from Campus Ministry and Student Affairs were with the students and their families while at the hospital.
Lily Vartanian ’20, a member of the Women’s Rowing team, remains hospitalized in intensive care in critical, but stable, condition. As part of the healing process, Lily is sedated and in a medically induced coma. Her recovery will be long, however, Lily will be strengthened by the steadfast support and love of the entire Assumption community. Lily’s family is by her side as she recovers, and Fr. Ron Sibugan, A.A., from Campus Ministry and President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D. have been in frequent communication with them. The family is enduring the greatest challenge any family can face, however, they find solace in the kindness of the Assumption community. For daily updates on Lily’s condition, visit a Caring Bridge page maintained by Lily’s family.
As expected, many in our community have asked what they can do to help Lily and her family with costly medical and housing expenses. Please know that friends of the family have established a GoFundMe page. Also, the institution will donate to the family all remaining ticket sales for Godspell.
The Vartanians and the three other students injured in the accident are most grateful for the support and prayers of the Assumption community.
Thank you once again for your continued support and concern for our students.
