Assumption Welcomes Prospective Students to Campus

Oct 21, 2019

On Sunday, October 20, Assumption welcomed nearly 400 prospective students from ten states, along with their families, to its annual fall Open House. Throughout the day, high school juniors and seniors were able to learn about Assumption and the transformative education it offers to students.

“It was really great to see so many prospective students and their families on campus Sunday,” said Michael DiPiazza, director of admission and recruitment at Assumption. “Not only were we fortunate with some great weather to help showcase the campus, I think families really felt welcome by our faculty, administrators, and our students, especially those students at the front gate enthusiastically welcoming them to Assumption.”

Fall Open HouseThe event kicked off with a welcome from DiPiazza and an invocation by Vice President for Mission Father Richard Lamoureux, A.A. ’69. Margaret Brennan ’20 spoke about her Assumption experience and the ways in which Assumption has impacted and changed her life. Kevin Hickey, associate professor of geography, spoke about how the liberal arts education prepares students for a successful life after college and for careers in an ever-changing world.

Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to hear from a variety of campus community members including faculty, current students, and admission staff. Students and their families were able to ask questions to a student panel; learn more about Assumption’s student life, including the Division II sports and Blue & White Sports; tour the beautiful 185-acre campus awash with fall colors; and enjoy lunch in Taylor Dining Hall, which was stocked with students’ fall favorites.

Most importantly, prospective students were able to learn about Assumption’s 33 majors and 49 minors through a number of Academic Showcases, where they met faculty and heard an in-depth presentations, including the new nursing and cybersecurity programs. The new e-sports arena was also on display, open all day and buzzing with activity.
