Remembering 9/11/2001

An email message sent to the campus community on September 11, 2024:

Dear Assumption Community,

Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, a day that profoundly shaped our nation and the world. As we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the attacks, we also reflect on the countless families and communities who continue to live with the deep pain and grief from that day.

At Assumption, we are called to seek truth in the company of friends, and in doing so, we embrace the responsibility to examine even the most difficult events with a sense of compassion, understanding, and justice. The September 11 attacks were acts of hatred and violence, motivated by a distorted vision of the world. In our pursuit of truth, we strive to reject such falsehoods and work toward a deeper understanding of one another, rooted in respect for the dignity of every human person.

Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a community where love overcomes hate, where peace is pursued through dialogue, and where justice is sought through the relentless pursuit of truth. As we remember the lives lost on that day, we honor their memory by fostering a world that embraces unity over division, friendship over enmity, and hope over fear.

In the spirit of our Catholic liberal education, let us continue to seek the enduring truths that guide us toward creating a better future—together.

May we hold the victims and their families in our prayers today and always.

Sincerely,

Greg Weiner, Ph.D.
President
