Students on campus

November 2, 2021

Even though this year looks a bit different, fall has arrived and many seniors are in the process of finalizing their college lists and beginning their applications. While visiting college campuses is an important component of this process, there are still many limitations due to Covid-19. However, there are ways to see if a campus is the right fit for your student!

Take Advantage of Virtual Opportunities

The pandemic has created the need for universities to develop new ways for students and families to explore – from information presentations to admission interviews, student panels to virtual Open House experiences, colleges are finding creative virtual opportunities to engage and connect with you, including unique ways for your child to speak with faculty, staff, and current students. Through these virtual visits, you can get a sense of how friendly the community is, if students seem happy, and does the institution appear to be an environment where your child will thrive.

Many institutions have reopened to visitors, but that looks a bit different too. Colleges and universities reopened in a de-densified manner. There are less students in classrooms, social distancing is often in practice, and masks are being worn. It is important that you consider the following as you prepare to physically visit campuses:

  • Register in advance – most institutions cannot accommodate walk-in visitors and some are not open to visitors at all
  • Review the travel protocols for the area you are visiting – each state and city has different protocols, as does each institution
  • Be sure to follow the rules – wear your masks, practice social distancing, and listen to guidelines
  • The safety of college communities and guests is everyone’s priority – this means you may be asked to comply with strict guidelines

Whether you connect with an institution virtually or on campus, it’s important to be prepared with questions and engage in dialogue. We know this process is challenging and we want to support your family and help your child find the right fit.

At Assumption, we have developed a comprehensive fall visit schedule that I hope will accommodate your family’s busy schedule. Whether you are looking to visit campus or engage virtually, we know you will learn something new each time you join us. Virtually, students can get to know the University during our Virtual Open House Experience which takes place November 7 – November 13. Students can also learn more about living and learning at Assumption during information webinars, watch a livestream campus tour, or meet their admission counselor during an interview conversation. Students can also engage with faculty and campus community members during Assumption’s in-person activities, such as Discovery Day on November 19 or during one of our on-campus visit events

I look forward to welcoming you this fall! To register for any of these events, please go to our Visit page.
