VOICES 21C, Bridging and Breaking – HumanArts

Apr. 01, 2023
11:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Curtis Performance Hall, Tsotsis Family Academic Center

VOICES 21C, Bridging and Breaking, reflects on topics of race and mass incarceration in the United States through the artistic lenses of choral music, community singing, theater, and spoken word performance. The ensemble interrogates ideas of justice and identity and focuses on the voices of two recently released formerly incarcerated artists who will be performing with us, Onyx White and Truth. Following the performance, we will remain for a talkback with the artists to discuss the intersections of art and incarceration with them and artistic director André de Quadros which will be open to audience questions. Professor de Quadros is on faculty at Boston University where he has been chair of the School of Music and works regularly in multiple centers of incarceration around the world utilizing varied arts practices.

This performance will be an incredibly unique experience for everyone to engage with artmaking that blurs the lines of music, theater, and spoken word while addressing important topics of justice through proximity to stories and people we may not regularly encounter.

This event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the Assumption University HumanArts series.
