Current Legal Issues & Trends for Counselors & Administrators in the Schools

This annual workshop will cover the most up-to-date state and federal laws and regulations that counselors and administrators in schools encounter. Specifically, this workshop will provide an overview of recent decisions and guidance from the State and Federal departments of education such as foster care, restraints and time outs in public school settings. The workshop will also address the prevention and response to truancy and chronic absenteeism and the public schools’ legal obligations. Student privacy, confidentiality and statutory privileges in public schools will be reviewed as well. This workshop will provide practical tips for navigating common issues and disputes relating to student privacy and confidentiality.
