Apr 29, 2024

The Worcester Business Journal (WBJ) announced on April 29 that Assumption President Greg Weiner has been named to their annual Power 100 list of the most influential business leaders in Worcester County. According to the WBJ, professionals are named to the list based on their influence on the economy of Worcester County in the last year.

Weiner’s profile includes his December 2023 Wall Street Journal op-ed, “A Haven From the Ivy League’s Madness,”  which provides commentary on the idea that Catholic institutions may be a welcoming environment for Jewish students looking for a home in higher education. The profile continues to expand on the importance of access to Catholic liberal education, which is a key component of AU Thrive, Assumption’s ten-year strategic plan. “A key theme of the plan is that everyone who seeks Catholic liberal education and is academically qualified to succeed deserves access to it,” Weiner said.

Despite college enrollment trends showing a nationwide decrease in, Assumption has seen growth in the past year under Weiner’s leadership, with a 29 percent increase in enrollment in the class of 2027 and a 20 percent increase in applications for the upcoming class of 2028.

According to the WBJ, their annual Power 50 list was expanded to the Power 100 list this year to “provide more information for you, the reader, to understand how the Central Massachusetts business community operates, the major events in the past year, the upcoming trends in the economy, and who are the high-profile people making major moves.”

Five Assumption alumni were also named to the list:
