If you’re interested in pursuing a career in law, you can major in any subject at Assumption, and our experienced pre-law advisors will work with you to prepare you for law school. They’ll also arrange meetings for you with Assumption alumni in the legal profession, connect you with valuable legal internships, and aid you in your preparation for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
A Law Degree in Six Years
Assumption has established several 3+3 partnerships: three years studying at Assumption followed by three years of law school. If you fulfill your Assumption requirements and are admitted to one of the law schools with whom we have an articulation agreement, you can enter law school in your fourth year of college. Once you successfully complete your first year at law school, you can receive your bachelor’s degree from Assumption University. This means that you can earn a bachelor’s and law degrees in 6 years instead of 7.
Faculty Advisors who will Guide you through Law School
Pre-law faculty advisors encourage students interested in law school to seek their services early in the college careers. Dedicated advisors help students from all majors identify law schools and areas within the law that best fit their interests and competencies. They also help students tailor their academic programs in a manner suitable to their particular circumstances and abilities. Such an approach provides students the freedom to choose a course of study that suits their interests. It is also consistent with the expectations of the American Bar Association and law school admissions officers who agree that no single curricular path best prepares students for law school. Reflecting Assumption’s commitment to the liberal arts and forming well-rounded individuals, the best preparation for law school is a field of study about which students are genuinely enthused and in which they can therefore excel. Not surprisingly, several majors at the University, such as criminology, English, history, natural science, philosophy, political science and sociology, among others, successfully matriculate students to law school.
LSAT Test Prep and On-Campus Networking
In addition to academic advising, pre-law advisors hold informational meetings for students, arrange meetings with Assumption University alumni who are in law school or in the legal profession, sponsor legal internships, and organize professional development opportunities. Above all, they aid students in their preparation for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), while guiding them through the law school application process. Assumption graduates have gone on to matriculate at such law schools as Boston College, Brooklyn College of Law, Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, Florida State University, New England School of Law, the University of Notre Dame, and Suffolk University School of Law, and have continued to succeed in the profession.
