Special Topics in Resiliency: A Mindful Self-Compassion Program for Students
This “Train the Trainer” course synchronously taught through Zoom prepares school personnel to bring an evidence-based mindful self-compassion skills training program to students in the middle and secondary school setting. The featured curriculum, Making Friends with Yourself: A Mindful Self-Compassion Program for Teens (MFY), promotes wellbeing, decreases anxiety and depression, and supports stress management in teens and young adults. Further, this curriculum supports building CASEL’s core competencies of self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, social awareness, and responsible decision making. Research about teens’ increasing risks that necessitate prevention/intervention will be reviewed as well as research and resources that support the practitioners’ delivery of this unique SEL program. The co-creator and researcher of MFY will teach this 5 day intensive course on campus using experiential and didactic formats.
