DESCRIPTION:Abraham Lincoln is justly known as a proponent of the rights enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. But he understood these as entirely compatible with the system of majority rule encoded in the Constitution. In this lecture\, President Greg Weiner\, a political scientist and author of Old Whigs: Burke\, Lincoln\, and the Politics of Prudence\, will explore that compatibility and what it means for our understanding of these issues today. \nThis event is sponsored by the President’s Office and is part of Assumption’s year-long series celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, Striving for Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
