CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

The Interdisciplinary Environmental Association (IEA) invites you to participate in the 12th International INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON THE ENVIRONMENT!

The conference is motivated by the increasing need to combine ideas and research findings from DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES to enhance our understanding of the interactions between the natural environment and human institutions.

Conference presentations are aimed at the educated layperson and FOCUS on:

• What all disciplines have to offer with respect to understanding environmental and resource problems;
• What solutions are available;
• What are the implications of the globalization of environmental concerns.

The conference welcomes environmental practitioners, academics, students and all interested persons regardless of background. Participants may organize sessions (please ask for "Panel Organizer Guidelines"), present papers, chair sessions, discuss papers, participate in round-table discussions, or simply observe.

The conference also welcomes papers submitted by STUDENTS, both GRADUATE and UNDERGRADUATE. Advisors, please contact <kreiter@stetson.edu> for details.

To facilitate communication, authors should make an effort to write their papers so as to be understood by an audience outside their disciplines. All papers will pass a peer review process for publication consideration in the Interdisciplinary Environmental Review.

The program consists of:

• Small concurrent seminar-type sessions with: chairperson, presenters, and at least one discussant assigned to comment on each paper;
• Round-table thematic discussions with moderator;
• Workshops and panels;
• Invited speakers;
• Pre-conference reception, evening June 22; conference dinner, June 24.

To ORGANIZE PANELS please ask for "Panel Organizer Guidelines". The fee for each participant in the panel, except the organizer, is $300. The fee for the panel organizer is $105.

To participate as a PRESENTER please submit ABSTRACTS and/or PAPERS:

ABSTRACT/PAPER SUBMISSION AND EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
MAY 12, 2006

• Please, submit your abstract (of no more than 300 words) via email to Dr. Kimberly Reiter < kreiter@stetson.edu> by May 12, 2006. Additionally, mail two hard copies of your abstract to the IEA address.
• All abstracts submitted will be evaluated for presentation and publication in the Book of Abstracts which will be available at the Conference.
• You may submit abstracts for no more than 2 papers;
• Abstracts/papers must not have been published, accepted, or submitted for publication elsewhere;
• The disciplines that best fit your paper must be typed on the top right corner of the front page;
• For co-authorships please include names, affiliations, and addresses of all authors and indicate who will serve as presenter;

FINAL PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JUNE 1, 2006.

• To have your paper considered for publication in the journal Interdisciplinary Environmental Review, please submit 4 copies of the paper by June 1, 2006;
• Papers must not have been published, accepted, or submitted for publication elsewhere;
• All papers will be evaluated using a blind review process. Format instructions are available on-line for publication in the Interdisciplinary Environmental Review. Format instructions will be attached to the acceptance for publication letter. Accepted for publication manuscripts of more than 12 single-spaced pages will be considered at $10 per additional page.

FIELD TRIPS

Efforts are underway to organize several one-day field trips in association with the conference.
These trips being considered include:

* Hawaii Volcanoes National Park;

* Pu’uhonua o Honaunau and Reef Area.

These trips will likely operate immediately before or after the conference, and will involve a small
fee for transportation and lunch. Please indicate interest in any of these trips ans details
will be forwarded to you once finalized. Details will also be available on
http://ieaonline.org once available.

SESSION / REGISTRATION DETAILS

"Session Chair/Moderator and Discussant Guidelines", as well as copies of the abstracts or papers 
to be discussed, will be e-mailed to moderators and discussants once sessions are organized.
 
Note: Registration fees include the Banquet, one copy of the Conference Program & Book of Abstracts, 
the semi-annual Interdisciplinary Environmental Review, membership in the IEA, and access to all
conference presentation sessions and functions.
 
Refunds: Individuals applying for program participation but not accepted are eligible for fee refunds. 
Cancellations must be in writing and are subject to a $75 handling fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations
After June 10, 2006. Refunds will be processed after the conference.
