Career Advice

The definition of the term 'career' is the totality of a person's work activity, extending throughout the person's lifetime. It is not static,
but reflects changes in the person and milieu.

If you are a student who is not goal-oriented you may become uncomfortable or feel threatened when asked to consider your goals. You may feel that once a goal has been set, you are obligated to fulfill it. Or, you may feel a sense of loss when you begin to recognize that some values you’ve had in the past do not play a significant part in your new plans for the future. These responses are natural in the process of forming commitments and giving new focus to your life.

You should regard the goals you state as the basis for a tentative
commitment. This approach is essential to your continued growth and
career development. As you grow and progress throughout the course of
your college career and in subsequent career development, you will learn
to refine and reshape your goals.

Plan to visit your Office of Career Services to begin the process of goal
development: integrating short-term, intermediate, and long-term goals
around your career theme. These goals will bridge the gap between your
current experience and your current concept of a more desirable future.

Call 508 767-7409 for an appointment with a career counselor to discuss
your goals and aspirations and the steps which you can take to realize
your dreams.
