Whatever
your interest is – we have a volunteer opportunity for you.
You can sign up for any of our ongoing programs which involve tutoring,
mentoring, visiting with the elderly, serving in soup kitchens, or
working in homeless shelters. Many students choose our “one-shot” programs
which change each month, and are listed in our “Upcoming
Events.”

Abby’s House- Sarah Lesperance slesperance@assumption.edu
Abby's House is a shelter for women who have been battered or are homeless, and volunteers are able to work in the kitchen or the thrift shop.
BIGS in Schools –Patricia Sullivan psulliva@assumption.edu
This program through Big Brothers/Big Sisters follows the school calendar and allows college volunteers to be matched up with a child at Flagg St. School.

Located at various schools throughout Worcester, this program gives children the opportunity to sit and have one-on-one reading time with an Assumption student.
Boys & Girls Club –
- Mentoring – Colleen Walls cwalls@assumption.edu
This after-school program is geared towards children ages 6-12. Volunteers help with homework, play games and act as role models.
- Recreation – Sheena Johnson sljohnso@assumption.edu
With games including pool, foosball, ping pong, basketball and so on, the atmosphere as the kids pile into the gym for the activity of the day is energetic and fun for children and volunteers alike.
- Boys and Girls Club Kids Café – Paula Hartigan phartigan@assumption.edu
Volunteers help set up, serve and visit with 80-100 children who are fed dinner through this program.
Columbus Park After School Homework Help- Emily Santamaria esantama@assumption.edu
Columbus Park After School program is a very structured program that allows students to seek help from volunteers in various subjects allowing them the opportunity to receive help that would otherwise not be available to them.
Elm Park After School Homework Help- Mason Pelletier mpelletier@assumption.eduVolunteer arrive and help kids age 8-12 with homework for the first hour. After their homework is complete, we play a wide variety of games from board games to sports.
Friendly House & Francis – Maura Cook mcook@assumption.edu
This shelter for 13 families is set in a beautiful Victorian House on Elm Street. Children and volunteers do things like color, play Candy Land, or venture over to Elm Street Park.
Girls, Inc. Recreation Programs –

Friendships are formed, stories are heard and activities such as dancing, taebo, and roller-skating makes for a rewarding encounter for both the girls and the volunteers at the Lincoln House.

A wide variety of activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, gymnastics and swimming lessons can make any volunteer experience at the Winthrop house an unforgettable one.

Higher Education Resource Center (HERC) is a program designed to assist local high school students in the college application process. Volunteers may help with applications, essays, FAFSA forms, interview preparation or even help with homework. It is a great chance to serve as a mentor to young people who are in the shoes you were in just a few years ago.

This program strives to enhance children’s learning opportunities and skills, as well as addressing violence, substance abuse issues and peer relations. Volunteers interact with children ages 5-12.

If you’re one who enjoys the company of the older and wiser, the kind spirited and beautiful hearted, the Lutheran home does just that enabling volunteers to visit with the elderly that reside in the home.

Amazed by the stories these veterans share, volunteers et up and serve meals as volunteers and veterans get to know one another.

Requiring only a few hours of service on a specific day, “one shots” gives students an opportunity to volunteer in programs ranging from park clean-ups, Rebuilding Together Worcester, Christmas shoeboxes, the Clothes Shoppe, and many others. There are usually one to two “one shots” each month.

This youth program allows volunteers and teens to explore places throughout Worcester giving kids a chance to take trips to places such as the Ecotarium, the Worcester Art Museum, the library, the mall and the movies.

Running Monday thru Friday, this after school program is designed to let children know that people really care; playing games, helping with homework and simply being a role model for the kids are some of the volunteer responsibilities.

This incredible fall soccer program provides an opportunity to form friendships and have fun playing sports; meeting on Sundays, right on our campus, volunteers have a chance to coach and play with some of the world’s greatest kids.

Volunteers will be providing assistance to those seeking information about the food stamp program, as well as filling and distributing bags of food.

This amazing mentoring program enables volunteers to be paired with one child during which homework and art projects can be done and games can be played.

St. Vincent's Hospital at Worcester Medical Center offers pre-medical and pre-health science students the unique opportunity to volunteer in the Emergency Department as well as observe emergency medical procedures.

TOPSoccer is a volunteer-driven, community-based program that brings the game of soccer into the lives of children with physical, mental, and emotional challenges.
Wawecus School Volunteers- Sarah Lesperance slesperance@assumption.eduWawecus is an elementary school where volunteers assist students who struggle with math, science and reading. In addition to academics there are also extracurricular activities such as sports and board games.
