Frequently Asked Questions
How many students at Assumption Volunteer?
Last year over 800 students were involved in community service.
Do I have to have a car to be able to volunteer?
No, the Reach Out Center has an arrangement with a local cab company
so that the cost of your ride to and from any community service
done from our office is covered.
Is it possible to volunteer with a friend?
Yes, we encourage friends and roommates to sign up for volunteer
opportunities together. We will do everything we can to accommodate
your being able to go out with a friend.
Will you keep track of my hours?
Yes, we have a database in the Reach Out Center and will track all
your volunteer hours. If you need documentation or verification
of your hours we will provide that upon request.
Do I have to volunteer every week?
No, while we have many ongoing, regular mentor and tutoring type
opportunities, we also have lots of options to get involved in
community service on a "one shot" basis.
What if I have my own idea for a volunteer project, will you help
me get going?
Absolutely, we will help you find agencies and contact people to
start any volunteer project that you bring to us.
Why should I volunteer?
Being involved in community service is great on many levels. It's
a great way to get involved with fellow Assumption students, as
well as making a contribution to the Worcester community. It is
also a good way to get some first hand experience as you begin
to make career choices. Volunteering is a super resume builder.
Probably most valuable part of volunteering is the sense that you
can make a difference, and can be a force for good, wherever you
are.
