MINOR IN GERMAN STUDIES
The German Studies Minor is intended to offer
students a greater knowledge of the language and a
deeper understanding of the thoughts and culture of
the German-speaking countries, especially of the new
Federal Republic of Germany, which has become a
powerful political and economic force in the new Europe.
A student may complete a Minor in German
Studies with six one-semester courses (18 credits) which
must include at least one course in each of the
following areas:
1. German at the level of GER 103 or higher
2. German literature in the original or in translation
(i.e., CLT 140 Introduction to Literature/German
emphasis, GER/CLT 251: Modern German Masterpieces)
3. German history (HIS 271, HIS 272)
The remaining courses may be selected in other
disciplines when the content deals substantively with
German culture (i.e., PHI 365, PHI 325, THE 363,
MUS 223, MUS 225).
The choice will depend on the
student’s interest. Independent studies and consortium
courses may be included. The minor must be planned
with the departmental advisor.
