The award in Elementary Education was presented by Dr. Anita Danker to Nicole Santosuosso '05, of Reading, MA. Nicole has been a Dean’s List student and she has received several scholarships during her college years. She is a member of ODK Leadership Circle and the International English Honor Society. She has been active in SGA and Campus Ministry, and she is a writing tutor at the Academic Support Center. Nicole hopes to teach elementary school in the North Shore area in Massachusetts.
The award in Secondary Education was presented by Dr. Anita Danker to Melissa Rijo '05, of Seekonk, MA. Melissa is president of the English Honor Society and a member of ODK Leadership Circle. She is a writing tutor at the Academic Support Center, and plans to teach English at the high school level.
The award in Global Studies was presented by Dr. Dylan McGee to Elizabeth Olds '05 of Rutland, MA. Elizabeth tutors Economics and Geography at the Academic Support Center, and she is co-editor of the Senior Section of the Yearbook. She has volunteered through the Reach Out Center, and she is employed in the accounting department of a local company. She plans to attend graduate school and hopes to work as an economic analyst.
The award in Economic Issues and Policy was presented by Dr. Dylan McGee to James Tomasetti '05 of Natick, MA. James tutors Economics and Finance at the Academic Support Center, and he has been involved in intramural sports on campus. He is undecided about future plans, but he hopes to continue his education and earn a joint MBA/JD degree.
The award in Economics with Business Concentration was presented by Dr. Dylan McGee to Aaron Jodka '05, of Acton, MA. Aaron is a member of ODK Leadership Society, and the Residential Assistant Council in Residential Life. He is also involved in the national economics honor society and the ACTV television club.
The award in Mathematics was presented by Dr. Kevin Carlin to Mary Barros '05, of Foxboro, MA. Mary participated in the 2004 drawing marathon, and she was a member of the step team for four semesters. Mary hopes to work in the mathematics or visual arts field as a teacher.
The award in Computer Science was presented by Dr. Robert Fry to Timothy Hynes '05 of Windham, NH. Tim has worked for the last three years as an assistant manager of Prints Plus in the Solomon Pond Mall. He has worked on a Spring Break Mission with Habitat for Humanity in Yonkers, New York. He has participated in START I and II retreats, and he has volunteered through various Admissions programs, as a tour guide and overnight host.
The award in French was presented by Dr. Elisabeth Howe to Andrea Mullins '05, of Bristol, CT. Andrea is a member of the varsity cross-country team and the French National Honor Society. She studied in France, and she is a French tutor at the Academic Support Center. Next year Andrea would like to return to France to teach English, and plans to later continue her education to become a French teacher.
The award in Foreign Languages was presented by Dr. Thomas Begley to Megan Kirby '06 of Jefferson, MA. Megan is a member of the Chapel Choir and has been in three musical theater productions on campus. She is a Spanish tutor at the Academic Support Center. She is President of the Spanish Honor Society and a member of the ODK Leadership Circle. She hopes to attend the Spanish Graduate program at Middlebury College, and she plans to teach Spanish at the high school level.
The award in Classics was presented by Dr. Bonnie Catto to Daniel Moran '05 of West Roxbury, MA. Dan is a member of ODK Leadership Circle, and the National Mathematics Honor Society. He is an Augustine Scholar and is involved in Campus Ministry activities. He tutors at the Academic Support Center, and has played intramural basketball for four years. Dan hopes to teach mathematics or Latin at the high school level.
The award in Latin American Studies was presented by Dr. Magda deMoor to Elizabeth McGovern '05, of Bristol, RI. Elizabeth is a member of Students Advocating Change. She has been on both the Cuba and Mexico missions, and she has studied in Spain and Costa Rica. Next year she will volunteer in Bolivia as an Associate Missionary of the Assumption.
  The award in Spanish was given to Erin Schotanus '05, of Whitinsville, MA. She is a member of ODK Leadership Circle, and she is a Spanish and Psychology tutor at the Academic Support Center. Erin plans to work toward a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology.
The award in Marketing was presented by Professor Pete Murphy to Lauren Palladino '05, of Carmel, NY. Lauren is a member of ODK Leadership Circle. She has been involved in intramural volleyball, and she is a tutor for business students at the Academic Support Center. She plans to pursue a career in sales.
The award in Accounting was presented by Professor William Sullivan to Melissa Blodgett '05, of Northbridge, MA. Melissa does volunteer work through the Reach Out Center, and she is an Accounting tutor in the Academic Support Center. She also volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Association (VITA) program to prepare income tax returns for low-income Worcester families. Melissa plans to complete the MBA program at Assumption and become certified as a public accountant.
The award in Organizational Communication was presented by Dr. Jeffrey Hunter to Jaime Glynn '05 of Foxboro, MA. Jaime has been a Dean’s List student and has received several scholarships during her four years of college. She studied at Bond University on the Gold Coast in Australia last Spring. In the future, she hopes to become an event coordinator.
The award in International Business was presented by Dr. Jeanne McNett to Meghan Shea '05 of Haverhill, MA. Meghan has been a lifeguard at the Plourde Recreation Center for three years, and she has been a member of the Swim Club.
The award in Management was presented by Professor Luanne Proko to James Tomasetti '05, also the winner of the award in Economics Issues and Policy.
The award in Psychology was presented by Dr. Paula Fitzpatrick to Allison Reyell '05 of Worcester, MA. Allison is a member of the Psychology National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and the ODK Leadership Circle. She is Captain of the Women’s Soccer Team, and President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She also tutors Psychology and Spanish at the Academic Support Center. Allison plans to attend graduate school and become an elementary school teacher.
The award in Biology was presented by Dr. Stuart Cromarty to Kerri Sawicki '05 of Holden, MA. Kerri has been involved in the Campus Activities Board, the Step Team, and the Best Buddies program. She holds a fellowship at UMass Medical School, and plans to study at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
The award in Chemistry was presented by Dr. Brian Niece to Craig Lonegan '05 of Stow, MA. Craig is a member of St. Luke’s Society, and he is a double major in Chemistry and Biology. He has been involved in intramural sports and he was a member of the crew team for two years. Craig plans to travel and work for a year, and then enroll in a Biochemistry Ph.D. program.
The award in Biotechnology was presented by Dr. Steven Theroux to Craig Lonegan '05.
The award in Environmental Science was presented by Dr. James Hauri to Kristen Cardenas '05 of Brookfield, MA. Kristen has been employed off-campus throughout her college career. She is looking for a professional position within the field of Environmental Science.
The award in Biochemistry was presented by Dr. James Hauri to Alexis Attwood '05 of Bellingham, MA. Alexis has been involved in women’s track and field, and she is a member of St. Luke’s Society. She has volunteered as an Open House tour guide, and at a girls’ summer basketball camp. Alexis hopes to find a professional position in the field of chemistry or biology.
The award in Political Science was presented by Dr. Peter Schultz to Keith Sullivan '05, of Agawam, MA. Keith is a double major in Political Science and Philosophy, and he tutors in those areas at the Academic Support Center. He is an SGA Senator and a Student Assistant in the First Year Program, and he is involved in several honor societies. Keith plans to attend law school next fall.
The first award in Philosophy is presented by Dr. Gavin Colvert and it also goes to Keith Sullivan.
A second award in Philosophy is presented by Dr. Gavin Colvert to James Newman '05 of Johannesburg, South Africa. James is a triple major in Finance, Accounting, and Philosophy. He will take the CPA exam this year. He has passed the first two levels of the CFA program and is a candidate for the third and final level in June. He is captain of the tennis team, a member of the golf team, and a Residential Assistant. James will begin working for Ernst & Young in Boston in August.
The award in History was presented by Dr. Kenneth Moynihan to Katherine Burke '05 of Liverpool, NY. Katherine is a History tutor at the Academic Support Center and a Student Assistant for the First Year Program. She is President of the History Honor Society, and Faculty Editor of the Yearbook. Katherine hopes to teach History at the high school level.
The award in Social and Rehabilitation Services was presented by Dr. David St.John to Jill Amicangelo '05, of Walpole, MA. Jill is employed by three families in Worcester as caregiver for their children, and she loves this work. On campus, she has worked at the D’Alzon Library for four years. Jill is currently enrolled in the Six-in-Five Program, and will get her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling next year. She hopes to work with adolescents in a group residential setting.
The award in Sociology was presented by Dr. Steven Farough to Janette Polaski '05 of Enfield, CT. Janette is a double major in Biology and Sociology with a concentration in pre-medical studies. She is a member of the Sociology Honor Society, and tutors at the Academic Support Center. This fall, Janette will attend Dartmouth College's master’s program in Public Health. She hopes to work in the field of health care.
The award in Theology was presented by Fr. Stephen Torraco to Christopher Harrigan '06 of West Hartford, CT. Christopher is involved in Campus Ministry programs, Pastoral Council, and serves as a Eucharistic minister. He plans to continue studying for a doctorate in Sacred Theology.
The award in English was presented by Dr. Dana Aspinall to Ivy Linton Stabell '05 of Cheshire, CT. Ivy is co-captain of the women’s rowing team and a writing tutor at the Academic Support Center. She will attend the Master of Arts program at the University of Connecticut, where she will serve as a teaching assistant for freshmen English.
The award in Writing and Mass Communication was presented by Dr. Michael Land to Jeffrey Lavery '05 of Poughkeepsie, NY. Jeff is involved in the Phoenix and Thoreau’s Rooster publications, and he is a writing and theology tutor at the Academic Support Center. After graduation, he would like to work in journalism or public relations in the Boston area.
The award in Art History was presented by Dr. Barbara Beall to Mary Wood '05 of Stow, MA. Mary has been a member of the women’s soccer team for four years and, this year, was part of the first team to participate in the NCAA tournament. A double major in both Studio Art and Art History, she has exhibited her artwork in many student art shows. Next fall, Mary will study at University of Massachusetts-Amherst for a master’s degree in art history.
The award in Studio Art was presented by Professor Edie Read to Julie Durkin '05 of Townsend, MA. Julie is captain of the women’s cross-country team and a student-athlete Advisory Council member. She is involved in intramural volleyball and floor hockey, and she has studied in Spain. Julie hopes to become a high school Spanish teacher and cross-country coach.
The award in Music was presented by Dr. Michelle Graveline to Alison Burns '05 of Chelmsford, MA. Alison has been a member of Chapel Choir for four years, and often cantors Mass at Assumption. She has participated in various Campus Ministry events, and she was a Student Orientation Leader last summer. Alison hopes to continue singing, while working in the field of marketing.
