Worcester, MA- Over a year ago, current Assumption College Junior and cystic fibrosis victim, Bobby Burgohlzer began a phenomenal project. With his roommates, he decided to bring attention to this disease that has plagued him since birth. In a recent speech that he gave, he talked not only of his struggle with this disease, but how he could not have achieved this goal without the support from the Assumption College community.
After the incredible success of his first Road Race event where he raised $10,000, Bobby knew he needed to continue this fight. Ironically, he enrolled in Professor Lucia Knoles, Ph.D. Speech Class and found the team he needed to make this Road Race an Annual Event. The requirements of the Speech Class are not as they may seem on the surface. Yes, you work on your communication skills, but it is how you use those skills that is most important. The requirements of the class, which are attached, mandate that "this course is not about becoming a smooth talker, a scam artist, or a power monger. It is about becoming a productive person who makes a positive difference in life, and in the lives of others." The class has chosen to make BOBFEST their project for the semester.
The Second Annual Assumption College Cystic Fibrosis Road Race, BOBFEST, will take place this Sunday, April 16, 2000. The events will begin at 11:00 a.m. on the Assumption College Campus, behind the Plourde Recreational Facility.
The afternoon of fun will include a walk/run, field events, whiffle ball tournament, three legged races, egg toss, and of course food and entertainment. Minimum donation of $10 is required. The money raised from this event will go to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to find a cure to this disease.
One very interesting note relates to the chosen "logo" for this event, a gallon of water. Bob is famous for his ever present gallon of water which he carries EVERYWHERE. This constant companion of Bob's is a necessity. The water prevents his lungs from being completely obstructed with the sticky mucus produced by his illness. The project organizers have made it their "logo" and it will be printed on all T-shirts and promotional pieces.I have attached a copy of the "logo"
