State Appeals Court Judge to be Sworn in
at Assumption College

Assumption College will host the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow, Thursday, May 20, 1999 for Judge Andre J. Gelinas, '60, who will be sworn as the new State Appeals Court Judge.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. at Laska Gymnasium, Assumption College, 500 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Over 800 guests, dignitaries, politicians and friends are expected to attend the ceremony.

Judge Gelinas will take the oath of office which will be administered by Governor Argeo Paul Cellucci.

Judge Gelinas' appointment will fill a position on the State Appeals Court which has been vacated since the death of Judge J. Harold Flannery, Jr. who died in December.

Judge Gelinas would become the second Central Massachusetts judge on the Appeals Court and is the first District Court judge to be appointed directly to the Appeals Court.

Judge Gelinas was first appointed a special justice in 1973 by Governor Francis W. Sargent. He became presiding justice of the Fitchburg Court in 1985. Since 1992, he has been associate justice of the western district appellate division of the District Court.
