Worcester Agencies to Receive $50,800

One Women's Story Inspires Entire Community

On Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at 4:30 p.m., a journey of a lifetime came to an end for
Assumption College and one particular employee, Ann McCarron. Ann McCarron rode her bike across America this past summer. As the victim of child sexual abuse, she peddled to give a voice to other children living with the same horrible secret. As she rode across the country, Ann raised money for four agencies here in Worcester. Tomorrow afternoon, on the campus of Assumption College, the grand total will be announced at a check presentation and the conclusion of Bike Across America will be celebrated.

Although Ann McCarron peddled from California to Massachusetts, she wants everyone to know that "Assumption College is the reason this project succeeded. From the sponsorship to the employee support, from the prayers and wishes to the collection of thousands of dollars, I could not have achieved this goal without the help of Assumption College."

"Assumption College has always been known in the Worcester area as a College which contributes to the community. But, having raised over $50,000, all of which will go directly into the agencies here in Worcester, exemplifies just how committed we are to helping others right here in Worcester." said Dr. Thomas R. Plough, president of Assumption College.

The four agencies that will be receiving the donations are The Advocacy Center for Children, Inc; Child Assault Prevention Agency (part of Daybreak and YWCA), Court Appointed Special Advocates Project and the local chapter of the National Coalition Against Sexual Abuse.

The checks were presented this afternoon at Assumption College by members of the support team, friends of Ann and local children.
