Di Pasquale, Jr., the 13th president of Assumption College and
the first layman to serve in that post, died this morning in
Tucson, AZ, at the age of 75. |

passing of Assumption College junior Michael Zabroski. Michael
died from injuries he sustained after being struck by a car

Board of Trustees Approves Name of New Science Center
October, 2003—The Assumption
College Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Saturday, October
25, 2003 to name the new Science Building the Richard and Janet
Testa Science Center. The Board's decision was announced later
that evening by President Thomas R. Plough at the President's
Council dinner held at Mechanics Hall. The College community
was informed recently of the Board's decision. |

Helps Build New Playground; Gift is in Honor of 100th Anniversary
October, 2003—During the
spring of 2003, Assumption College announced a donation of $40,000
to be given to the City of Worcester for the construction of
Fairmount Park in the form of a new playground. This gift, which
is part of the College's 18-month Centennial Celebration, will
be celebrated on the weekend of October 25 and 26, with the
construction and dedication of the new playground. |

Anti-Racism
Authority to Speak at Assumption College
October, 2003—Assumption
College is pleased to present educator Jane Elliott, the originator
of a powerful anti-racism education method, as a guest lecturer
on October 16, 2003. The event will take place in the Hagan
Campus Center Hall at 7:00 pm, and is free and open to the public.

Ruby
Bridges, Civil Rights Activist, to be Honored at Assumption
College
October, 2003—On Tuesday,
October 14, Ruby Bridges, the six-year-old depicted in the famous
Norman Rockwell painting, A Problem We All Live With, will be
honored at Assumption College. Ms. Bridges, a Civil Rights Activist,
made history at the age of six as she became the first black
child enrolled in the William Franz Elementary School in New
Orleans, arriving that first day of school in the company of
armed federal marshals. |
Ribbon
Cutting Ceremony Marks New Beginning
October, 2003—Assumption
College celebrated the opening of the campus's new Science Center
with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 9, 2003.
The ceremony took place in the atrium of the new building, with
about 275 students, faculty, staff, and distinguished guests
in attendance. |

October, 2003, Worcester,
MA—The Information Technology Department at Assumption College
recently received a grant of $171,885 from the National Science
Foundation for network infrastructure to connect to Internet2,
which has a local connection at WPI. |

College Students to Harvest 100,000 Pounds of Produce
August, 2003—Assumption College
students who are back from summer vacation aren't quite done
with their summer jobs. In fact, some of the students in the
leadership-training program will be working harder today than
they had all summer. That's because student leaders from our
Reach Out Center and Campus Ministry will be working on a farm
in Grafton today, harvesting 100,000 pounds of produce for the
Worcester Food Bank. |

gift of $10,000 in computer equipment and network infrastructure
for the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester, who are housed
