
Assumption College Center for Transportation
to Host Lecture
Worcester, MAThe Center for Transportation and Environmental Education at Assumption College will host a panel discussion titled, "When a Road Runs Through It: An Examination of he Impact of the Interstate Highway System on American Communities," on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at 6:30 p.m.
The panel includes five faculty members and will begin with a showing of the
PBS film, "Divided Highways." The panel consists of Assumption College
Professors Rich Gendron, Sociology; Kevin Hickey, Geography; Peter Schultz,
Political Science; Jed Watters, History; and Tom White, Economics. The discussion

The UTC was created with a matching grant from the Research and Special Programs
Administration of the Federal Department of Transportation. Now in its third
year, the Center, with assistance from its national advisory board, is working
with teachers (K-12), environmentalists, and transportation professionals to
help young people appreciate transportations impacts on their environment
and on their communities. The Center was created to serve as a national clearing
house for curricular strategies and programs that schools throughout the country
might use in helping young Americans assume an environmental and social stewardship
and make responsible transportation choices.
