Worcester, MA— College Professor Emeritus Charles W. Estus Sr., Ph.D will chair a panel discussion at the statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Conference titled "Moving Together," to be held at the Worcester Crown Plaza on October 24-25, 2001.
The conference is sponsored by the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction, MassHighway, Massachusetts Highway Safety Bureau, and Massachusetts Department of Public Heath. The topic for the panel discussion is design issues that impact pedestrians and bicyclists in the state. Other panelists include Tom DiPaolo, Assistant Chief Engineer for MassHighway; Ann Hershfang, President of Walk Boston; and Tim Baldwin, Executive Director of Mass Bicycle Coalition.
Dr. Estus is director of the University Transportation Center at Assumption College. The UTC was created with a matching grant from the Research and Special Programs Administration of the Federal Department of Transportation. Now in its third year, the Center, with assistance from its national advisory board, is working with teachers (K-12), environmentalists, and transportation professionals to help young people appreciate transportation’s impacts on their environment and on their communities. The Center was created to serve as a national clearing house for curricular strategies and programs that schools throughout the country might use in helping young Americans assume an environmental and social stewardship and make responsible transportation choices.
