Assumption Tennis Smashing Competition

WORCESTER, Mass. ---The Assumption College men's tennis team has firmly entrenched itself as the No. 1 team in the East. Already ranked No. 1 by the ITA in its Eastern region and 29th nationally, the Greyhounds have left no doubt over the last two weeks.

Two weeks ago they won all three of their matches in the Bloomsburg, PA University Duals beating three teams that have either been ranked or are still ranked, Franklin Pierce (8-1), Concordia, NY (6-0) and host Bloomsburg, PA (5-1). Before returning home they stopped at undefeated Pace and beat the No. 9 ranked Setters convincingly (8-1).

This past week they humbled five opponents, all by the same 9-0 score, to extend their current unbeaten streak to 16 straight matches and win their fourth consecutive conference regular-season championship (no one has ever done that!) They also extended their conference win streak to an amazing 45 consecutive. Fourteen of the 18 victories this season have come by shut out scores.

The Northeast-10 Conference post-season tournament will be hosted by Saint Anselm College (Manchester, NH), Friday-Sunday, April 19-21. The top-seeded Hounds will be an overwhelming favorite to be the first team to win four straight post-season tournaments before moving on to the N.C.A.A. regional tournament.
