
Assumption College Approves New
Trustees
The Assumption College Board of Trustees recently approved the following individuals
for three-year terms on the board:
- Cedric "Cecil" Ellis, '84 of Hartford, CT; Until this past March,
Cecil had served as the Director of Human Resources for Aetna, Hartford, CT.
He recently was named Director of Human Resources for Fireman's Fund McGee
Marine Underwriters, a subsidiary of the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company
in New York City. Cecil is currently a member of the Assumption College Alumni
Advisory Board.
- Janice Fuller of Boylston, MA; Jan recently retired from IDG-New
England, formally Refco, Inc., where she had served as Vice President and
Finance Manager. She is currently a trustee of the Seven Hills Foundation,
a trustee of the George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation, a corporator for
Music Worcester, and a member of the board of directors of Calliope Productions.
Jan is married to Mark Fuller and has two children, Kelsa '92 and Scott, and
two grandchildren.
- Robert E. Longden, Jr., Esq., (Assumption Prep '67) of Holden, MA;
Bob is currently the Managing Partner at Bowditch & Dewey LLP in Worcester.
A graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School, his areas
of practice include commercial real estate development, zoning, planning and
land use. He is a former president of both the Worcester County Bar Association
and the Worcester County Bar Foundation. Bob and his wife Joanna serve on
the Parents Committee at Assumption College. They have two children, Tim '03
and Carolyn.
- Paul J. MacKinnon of Hingham, MA; Paul is currently the Executive
Vice President and Director of Retail Risk Management for FleetBoston Financial
Co. in Boston. He is a graduate of Suffolk University. Paul is a trustee and
Chairman of the Audit Committee for South Cove Manor and a member of the Assumption
College President's Council. He and his wife Geraldine also serve on the Parents
Committee at Assumption. They have two sons, Brian '02 and Timothy '05.
- Thomas D. Manning, '69 of Worcester, MA; Tom is currently the Vice
Chancellor for Operations and Commonwealth Medicine at the University of Massachusetts
Medical Center (UMMC) in Worcester. He had previously served for seven years
as Chief Operating OfficerÐSchools / Associate Vice Chancellor and prior to
that had served for thirteen years as Administrator in the Department of Psychiatry.
He is past President and a board member of International Center for Clubhouse
Development, a member of the Board of Directors of UMMC Foundation, Inc.,
National Conference for Community and Justice, and Family Health Center. He
is also a member of the Assumption College President's Council. Tom has three
children: Mikaela, Megan, and Matthew.
- Candace (Candy) McGovern Race, '78 of Leominster, MA; Candy is currently
Vice President and Director for theThe Advertisimg Agency at Fidelity Investments
in Marlboro, MA. She recently returned to Fidelity after working for Fallon
Health Care as Director of Sales and Corporate Communications. Candy had previously
worked for the Marketing Department of Paul Revere Insurance Co. She has served
on several local boards, including the YWCA and United Way of Central Mass.
She is married to Richard Race and has two children, Robert and Patrick."
- Leonard C. "Geoff" Smith '66 of Redondo Beach, CA and Simsbury, CT
(elected in March, 2001); Geoff retired in 2000 as President of Commercial
Affinity Division of the Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. He has since
accepted a new position as Executive Vice President of Insurance Services
for ePolicy, Inc. in Torrance CA, a business--to-business internet company
creating a new way for small businesses to purchase insurance. Geoff has been
active with the College, having served on numerous committees, including the
previous Capital Campaign, the President's Council, the Alumni Advisory Board
and his Class Reunion committees. He is married to Erika Smith and has two
children, Oliver and Gregory.
