Assumption College's Alumni
Association to Present Three Awards for Outstanding Recognition
Worcester, MAThe Alumni Association of Assumption College will give three awards during its annual Reunion Weekend on Saturday, June 9, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the President's Garden. The three award recipients will be: Bro. Armand Lemaire , A.A. (Class of 1948), receiving the Jack Bresciani Outstanding Alumnus Award; Dr. Michael True, professor emeritus of English, receiving the Honorary Alumnus Award; and Maurice Boisvert (Class of 1966), receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Bro. Lemaire, A.A. took his perpetual vows with the Assumptionist order in 1950. He worked at Assumption College as Assistant Treasurer for almost 40 years. He has also served the Assumptionist order in various capacities over the years, including Assistant to the Provincial Treasurer of the North American Province. Bro. Lemaire, now semi-retired, serves as the full-time sacristan at the Assumptionist's Old English Road residence in Worcester and as a special ambassador to the College's Alumni Association.
Dr. Michael True taught English, American literature, and Peace Studies at Assumption College from 1965-1997, and served as Chairperson of the English Department from 1974-1976. He also established the Peace and Justice Committee on campus, which hosted many well-known lecturers on the subject of peace and justice, and Professor True himself has authored many books on the subject. He has also served on the faculty of twenty other colleges and universities in this country and abroad, including Duke University (where he received his Ph.D. in American Literature), Colorado College, University of Hawaii, College of the Holy Cross, and Columbia University. He received the Peace Studies Association Lifetime Acheivement Award in 1999. Dr. True's books include Who Needs Religion?, An Energy Field More Intense than War: The Nonviolent Tradition and American Literature, and Daniel Berrigan: Poetry, Drama, Prose.
Mr. Maurice "Moe" Boisvert, L.I.C.S.W., President and Chief Executive Officer of Y.O.U., Inc., supervises a staff of more than 400 people, serves as the liaison to the board of directors, oversees the delivery of a broad range of therapeutic, educational, and residential services in central Massachusetts, and provides legislative advocacy on behalf of youths. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Assumption College, and his Masters of Social Work from the University of Connecticut School of Social work. Mr. Boisvert has also published numerous articles in a variety of professional journals and has presented at a wide variety of professional conferences.
