June, 2002At its recent Annual Meeting, the Assumption
College Board of Trustees reelected the following board members, each

June, 2002Assumption College will hold a topping
off ceremony to commemorate the raising of the final construction
beam of the Colleges new $18 million science and technology
center. The red-white-and blue beam will be raised in a ceremony on

Scholarship at Assumption College
First privately funded award for Rehabilitation Counseling graduate
students
May, 2002 At its annual meeting this morning at Mechanics
Hall, UnumProvident Corporation presented Thomas R. Plough, Ph.D.,
President of Assumption College, with the first disbursement of the
Charles E. Soule Scholarship in Rehabilitation Counseling. Soule retired
from Paul Revere Corporation in 1997 as Paul Revere and Provident
Companies merged. He began his career in 1956 after graduating from
Dartmouth College and served Paul Revere for 41 years, most recently
as the companys seventh President. This scholarship is a tribute
to Soules many contributions to the disability industry.

May, 2002Assumption College is proud to announce that
three students have been awarded Fulbright scholarships for the 2002-2003
Academic year. Seniors Audrey Anton, Mia Chabot, and Erin Toohill

May, 2002 Assumption College officials announced today
that the largest public bond offering in the Colleges history
has been completed with the issuing of $47,005,000 in thirty year
Variable Rate Demand Revenue Bonds through the Massachusetts Development

Performs Vivaldis Gloria
April, 2002The Assumption College Chorale will perform
Vivaldi's GLORIA with an orchestra on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at 8
p.m. in the College's Chapel of the Holy Spirit.
Soloists include soprano, Sarah Hall, instructor of Music & Voice
at Assumption College, and mezzo-soprano, Paula Murrihy, from County
Kerry, Ireland, recipient of the Dame Joan Sutherland Award for Most
Promising Young Singer and the McCormack Medal.

Gene Mapping Technology gives Students Practical Skills
April, 2002Assumption College will be the fortunate recipient
of a 0.5 mL GeneAmp®PCR System 9700 Thermal Cycler from Applied
Biosystems of Framingham when the machine is formally presented to
the College on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. The 9700 Thermal
Cycler is used in genetic mapping and the duplication of DNA.

April, 2002President Thomas R. Plough announced to
the Assumption College community today the appointment of Dr. Catherine
WoodBrooks as the Vice President for Student Life. Dr. WoodBrooks
is currently the Dean of Student Life at Connecticut College in New
London, Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education/Student
Affairs from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
In his announcement, President Plough noted the remarks from the search
committees summary report; "Dr. WoodBrooks has a strong
sense of mission in her own life and an excellent grasp of Assumption
Colleges Catholic, residential, liberal arts based mission.
She is an effective and proven collaborator with faculty, staff, students,
alumni, trustees, and members of the community and fosters a working

April, 2002The Ecumenical Institute at Assumption College
will present the annual Rabbi Klein lecture on Wednesday, April 17,
2002 at 7:00 p.m. The lecture will be delivered by Rabbi David Dalin
of the Jewish Theological Seminary and is titled, "Pius XII and
the Jews."
The topic is based on an essay Rabbi Dalin wrote which argues that
the "wartime Pontiff did far more to rescue Jews during the Holocaust
than any other Righteous Gentile recognized by the state
of Israel, including Raoul Wallenberg and Oskar Schindler.

the Augustinians of the Assumption, founders of Assumption College
(Worcester, MA), have had a publishing presence in France through
their wholly-owned publishing company, Bayard. Recently, Bayard has
increased its presence in the North American Catholic media market
with three acquisitions, most notably the purchase of Catholic Digest,
the largest paidcirculation Catholic magazine in the United

Easter Baskets to be Delivered to Four Area Shelters
March, 2002 faculty, staff and students have chosen to
play Easter Bunny to area children this year. Members of the community
were invited to donate a basket with $10 worth of "stuff,"
to area children in shelters. Over 70 people stepped up to the challenge
and donated 91 baskets. These baskets will be delivered to four area
shelters so the children they serve may experience the joy of receiving
something from the Easter Bunny.

College Announces Third Accelerated Undergraduate/Graduate Program
December, 2001 Assumption College has just announced
a new opportunity for undergraduate students to continue their studies
at the College in pursuit of a Master's Degree. Under this Fifth Year
Option Program, undergraduate seniors may now seek early admission
to the Master of Arts in Special Education program. Students must
have either a Concentration in Elementary or Secondary Education,
or a major in one of the academic subjects of the liberal arts and
sciences appropriate to Massachusetts teacher licensure at the 5-12
level. This program would allow students to earn a post baccalaureate
degree a year earlier which could save them money in tuition costs.

Featured in Exhibit at Assumption College
October, 2001On Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Arnold Edinberg,
a Worcester native, will give the opening lecture titled "These
Old Houses" for the second in the Emmanuel dAlzon Library
Art Exhibit series.
Mr. Edinberg will discuss why he chose to paint a number of portraits
of Worcester homes without the owners knowledge. Over 15 portraits
of homes, including some from the Beeching Street, Pleasant Street,
and Elm Park area will be on display. Owners of the properties have
been notified that their homes will be featured in this exhibit.

September, 2001, As part of Assumption Colleges HUMANARTS
Series, soprano Jane Shivick and pianist Olga Rogach will perform

pianist Sergey Schepkin will perform on Saturday, September 22 at

Sergey Schepkin has been hailed by the American Record Guide as "The
major Bach interpreter of his generation." His concert will feature
selections from Bach, as well as Sergey Rachmaninoff, Claude Debussy,

September, 2001As part of Colleges fall reading
series, poets Stephen Campiglio and David Thoreen will read selections
from their works on Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m. in the Emmanuel
d'Alzon Library.
Campiglio is a former editorial assistant at Assumption College and
now teaches English at Holy Name High School in Worcester. He is a
graduate of Worcester State College and has his Master's in education
from Assumption. His poetry has appeared in various magazines, including
The Literary Review, Northeast Corridor, and Asylum.

Milleret Lecture
September, 2001Assumption College announced today
that the College's Ecumenical Institute has established a new annual
lecture in honor of Blessed Marie-Eugénie Milleret, the founder
of the Religious of the Assumption, a world-wide congregation of women
and their associates. The close collaboration between Marie-Eugénie
Milleret and Emmanuel dAlzon , the founder of the Augustinians
of the Assumption, continues today in the common endeavor of the women
and men of the Assumption family at Assumption College.

GEAR UP is designed to promote school-wide changes in the CommonwealthÕs
neediest middle schools by boosting college awareness and preparation
among students and parents, and improving professional development
of teachers and school counselors. The conference is aimed at building

as effective leaders and spokespersons for early college awareness.

DIRECTOR OF MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRS
July, 2001 -Assumption College recently announced the appointment
of Mario J. Silva to Director of Multicultural Affairs. In this position,
Mr. Silva will coordinate the College's efforts to attract students
from diverse backgrounds and to promote a campus climate that supports
the high achievement and success of African-, Asian-, Latino-, and
Native-American (ALANA) students at Assumption College.

The Psalms in Our Time."
June, 2001, The Assumption College Ecumenical Institute is
sponsoring a weeklong lecture series on the psalms from June 24, 2001
to June 29, 2001 entitled "Songs of Praise: The Psalms in Our Time."
Lectures will take place in the Hagan Campus Center and masses will
take place in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The keynote speaker for
this lecture series will be William Holladay, Professor Emeritus at
the Andover Newton Theological School.

to Present Three Awards for Outstanding Recognition
June, 2001The Alumni Association of Assumption College
will give three awards during its annual Reunion Weekend on Saturday,
June 9, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the President's Garden. The three award
recipients will be: Bro. Armand Lemaire , A.A. (Class of 1948), receiving
the Jack Bresciani Outstanding Alumnus Award; Dr. Michael True, professor
emeritus of English, receiving the Honorary Alumnus Award; and Maurice
Boisvert (Class of 1966), receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award.
