26 Assumption College Students to Participate
in Spring Break Mission Program
Worcester, MA-For the week of Spring Break (March 5-9, 2001), 26 students from
Assumption College will participate in the CollegeÕs Spring Break Mission Program,
in which the students, comprised of four groups, will volunteer at mission locations
in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Greater Philadelphia, and Baltimore. The Spring
Break Mission Program, sponsored by the CollegeÕs Office of Pastoral Activity,
places student volunteers in positions of community service each year during the
Spring SemesterÕs week-long break. The program combines days of volunteer work
with evenings of reflection. This year, the Washington, DC group will volunteer
at the Missionaries of Charity, and will also tutor at a Catholic elementary school;
the two Philadelphia groups will be hosted by the Religious of the Assumption,
and will work with Habitat for Humanity, and volunteer in soup kitchens, nursing
homes, a wheelchair community, a recovery community, a home for the blind, and
a shelter for women and children; and the Baltimore group will work with Habitat
for Humanity. The CollegeÕs Mission Program also organizes volunteer programs
each May in Mexico and Nicaragua.
