PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING POET W.D. SNODGRASS
TO READ AT ASSUMPTION COLLEGE

 

Worcester, MA---Pulitzer Prize-winning poet W.D. Snodgrass will give a reading of his work at Assumption College on Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hagan Campus Center Hall.

Snodgrass is the author of more than twenty books, including essays, plays, and translations, as well as his poetry. His first volume of poetry, Heart's Needle, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1960. His most recent titles are Selected Translations (BOA Editions, 1998) and Spring Suite (Nadja Press, 1994).

Born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania in 1926, Snodgrass received his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa in 1953. After teaching at several different colleges, he became Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Delaware in 1980, and where he has been Professor Emeritus since 1994.

Snodgrass has published his poetry in numerous literary journals, including the American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review, the New Yorker, and World Literature Today. In addition to his Pulitzer Prize, he has also received many awards, such as a Ford Foundation grant, a National Endowment for the Arts grant, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

With his wife, Snodgrass spends approximately half of each year in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

The reading is free and open to the public. Following the reading there will be a sale of Snodgrass's books. The event is co-sponsored by the College's HUMANARTS Series and English Department.
