Assumption College Students Become Active in Local and National Politics
Worcester, MA-Assumption College has seen a recent surge in political activism among it students, both at the local and the national levels.
Recently, the Assumption College Republicans were one of just four schools that were able to volunteer at the first Presidential Debate held in Boston on Oct. 3, 2000. The students were responsible for escorting Governors from across the country through the maze in the media room for interviews and commentary on the debate.
In addition, the College Republicans held a reception for Chris Loconto, candidate for the 1st Worcester Senate District, after a debate which was held on campus last week. His opponent is Harriette Chandler.
Today, the College Democrats will be participating at a "Stand-Out" for representative candidate for the 13th Worcester District, Robert Spellane. The "Stand-Out" is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today at Newton Square Rotary. Also scheduled to be at the "Stand-Out" holding signs is Senator John Kerry (D-Mass). The students from Assumption will present Senator Kerry with an Assumption College sweatshirt.
The College Democrats will also be sponsoring a reception after the debate on Sunday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. for democratic candidate Robert Spellane.
