Worcester, MA---Assumption College recently announced that two of its professors have been selected as Professor Emeriti: Dr. Charles W. Estus, Sr. was named Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Dr. Hubert G. Meunier, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry.
Dr. Estus received his M.A. in Sociology at Duke University, and his Ph.D. in Social Psychology and the Sociology of Religion from New York University. In 1968 he began teaching in Assumption's Sociology Department, where he also directed the Community Studies Program. Dr. Estus has published articles in many scholarly journals, including the American Journal of Sociology, and presented papers at several conferences. He has also served at various times as President, Vice President, and Senator of the College's Faculty Senate. In 1997, he received a Faculty Development Grant for "Worcester at Mid-Nineteenth Century," in which he developed Web sources for teaching community studies. Dr. Estus will continue in his service at Assumption as Director of the College's new University Transportation Center, whose mission is to educate young people (K-12) on the interaction between transportation and the environment.
Dr. Meunier, newly named Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, received his M.S. from Rutgers University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island. Before coming to Assumption's Department of Natural Sciences in 1970, he taught chemistry and physics in England, Denmark, and Ireland. Dr. Meunier has been widely published in many scholarly journals, such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Polymer, and the Journal of Physics and Chemistry. Over the past thirty years, he has served as a consultant with the Naval Underwater Systems Center, and also has several patents registered with the U.S. government, including an "Improved Nickel Oxide Battery Cathode." In 1999 Dr Meunier accompanied six science students from Assumption to the Northeast Student Chemistry Research Conference at M.I.T.
